Our Senior Ballet Instructor, Jen Thoraldson has been teaching ballet and other dance forms for 15 years.  Originally from Fox Island, WA she received her early training from Kathleen McGilliard at the Gig Harbor School of Performing Arts.  Before graduating from Pacific Lutheran University, she studied jazz and modern dance and performed solo works for campus events.  While the Children’s Dance Director for the Centre at Norpoint in Tacoma, WA, she choreographed numerous recitals and wrote 5 original ballets.  Each ballet, including Norland and Misha’s Mask, highlights an aspect of God’s character.

Since residing in Nashville, TN she has taught children’s ballet, jazz and tap at First Light Arts Academy.  Jen has also been part of and choreographed and danced with the New River Fellowship Dance Ministry in Franklin.  Jennifer received further dance teacher training from Michael and Mary Cadle, the directors of First Light Arts Academy.  She is grateful to have benefited from their experience as members with the Cincinatti Ballet and as former staff members of Ballet Magnificat in Jackson, MS.  She is excited to share all she has learned with the Scott-Ellis dance family and we’re excited she is with us!

Our Junior Instructor, Heather Fanning, has been dancing since the age of 2.  She wanted to dance ballet like the women she saw on TV so her mother enrolled her in ballet classes with Mid-South Ballet Studio at the age of three and she has been dancing since.  While with Mid-South, she learned technique by instructors from Russia, Korea, and from the Southern Association of Dance Masters.  By the time she was 9 years

old, she was asked to dance in advanced ballet and Pointe classes. Heather was

involved with Mid-South for eight years.

At age eleven she moved to Franklin Dance Academy where she started taking Jazz, Tap, lyrical, modern,

and Hip-Hop.  Heather had the opportunity to assist with pre-ballet and tap classes and excelled in jazz, lyrical as well as ballet and Pointe.  Heather moved to Columbia Dance Academy and had the privilege of attending the Southern Association of Dance Masters’ convention and participated in their Ballet Forum this past summer receiving a certificate.
